Meet Dr. Nakako Uritani, DDS

Dr. Uritani’s practice philosophy is to discover the underlying causes for symptoms and to help the body in its innate healing process by treating kids in a minimally invasive and a supportive manner.

 Dr. Nakako was born in Tokyo, Japan and grew up in the SF Bay Area. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology from Cornell University in New York.  When she returned to California, she conducted research on Obstructive Sleep apnea therapy at Stanford University and worked as a Bioinformatics consultant, traveling around the world.

After Developing an interest in Dentistry, Dr. Nakako worked as a research associate in the dental biomaterials at UCSF and earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where she was inducted into the Tau Kappa Omega Dental Honor Society. 

In dental school, Dr. Nakako became passionate about Pediatric dentistry, especially Preventive Dentistry and people with special needs.

Dr. Nakako volunteered as a soccer coach for Special Olympics and provided dental screenings at Special Olympics Special Smiles. She also volunteered at a women’s community clinic as a health educator and provided counseling on women’s health concerns.

Dr. Nakako completed a post doctorate residency and received a certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center In Hawaii. She provided comprehensive dental care for children and people with Special needs in the underserved areas of Oahu and the Big Island.

She has been trained in and studied biological and minimally invasive dentistry, ALF orthodontics and cranioscral therapy, Myofunctional therapy and several Eastern healing modalities.  She believes in first and foremost strengthening your own natural teeth and when the treatment is needed, to use the most biocompatible materials.

Dr. Nakako loves playing in the ocean, practicing Yoga, hiking and being outdoors with her family.
